Geosoft Plugin for ArcGIS

Thursday, February 5, 2009

We talked about Dapple from Geosoft in an earlier blog post, but we failed to also mention that you can actually download an ArcGIS plug-in of the viewer. These software plug-ins enable you to use ArcGIS to view Geosoft file formats and download geoscience data from a DAP server (from within ArcGIS). The files are free to download and distribute.

Download from here

Says Geosoft:
"The Geosoft Plug-in for ArcGIS is an extension to the ArcGIS desktop software that provides data retrieval using DAP and also support for reading Geosoft file formats. The plug-in enables users to view Geosoft grid files as a raster layer inside ArcMap. The plug-in also enables users to view Geosoft Maps as layers.

The Geosoft plug-ins now use Dapple, a globe explorer, to find, view, and extract data from a variety of data servers. You can use internal servers as well as public servers including DAP servers, WMS servers, ArcIMS servers, and Tile Servers.

Along with enhanced Area-of-Interest searches using the globe, new capabilities include a WEB spatial data search engine for locating available public data, and a text search to narrow searches to topics of interest."
After installing the plug-in I searched for, and downloaded a TMI grid for South Australia in no time at all...Pretty handy.
